Expectations vs reality with the plastics manufacturing process.
March 11, 2022The plastics industry is a unique industry for a few reason such as the multiple types of plastic materials that can be used for the specific type of product you're looking to produce. Along with that is the exact types of manufacturing options that are available, in which certain manufacturing processes are used based on the type of product being produced. A few examples include injection molding, injection blow molding, and extrusion molding. As a customer, you should expect a great deal of communication with your plastics manufacturing company. This includes engineering, to sales, to customer service. Completed projects usually have a faster turnaround time when everyone involved is on the same page with communication. Expect to have multiple color options for your product. Be aware that resin pricing on colors may vary, based on type of plastic as well as the specific color requested.
There are many things that may come up during the initial meeting to prototyping, to production. Be aware that some tasks are limited to things like resin availability, to man power, to machine dowtime. Don't assume that all these details will all match up at the same time, each and every time. Some things are out of the manufacturers control.
